So, it was my intention when I decided to do this site “blog style”, to update as often as possible. My goal–initially–was to put sketches (of all levels of development), failures, out-takes, random visual ideas, etc. Basically just to make the site organic.  Well, I sort of forgot that there are legal aspects to some projects and that sometimes you need to keep things under wraps. Hence, you won’t see who the actual client was in most instances.

Anyway, here’s a bunch of stuff that I thought had some merit. Mostly roughed out ideas, or alternate pitch boards.  In the interest of putting this crazy post together quickly, some of the image sizes are pretty big (i’m not going to be so anal about sizes and locking up to a sexy grid, so bear with that here in the “random(ish) sampling” sections from here forward), so you’re gonna have to get your scroll on.  Ok, so here we go:

I did this pitch with Spontaneous, for Olay’s end-tags. Golden, shiny and sparkly. Just like me.

Of all the hundreds of video parts I’ve watched instead of actually skating, Natas’ part in Streets of Fire still kind of stands as my favorite.  I can remember watching this and going out skating.  No complies, one-foots, kick flips.  Watching this thinking that he actually ollied that truck, instead of hitting it with that launch ramp that’s now, so obviously there.  I seriously love skateboarding, even if all I can really do anymore is a couple of heel flips and cruising.

Such a massive influence on me.  Even when I got into punk rock, I secretly loved this guys shit. I am a nerd.

Since the whole Obama thing, it kind of looks like people are “over” Shepard Fairy appropriating images.  I’m on the fence in a big way, but leaning more towards being pretty over it myself.  I suppose that in the 90s, when the big thing in skateboard graphics and in rave flyers was reworking logos and images to suit your own needs, it was cool that he was doing that by taking the image of childhood kitsch (Andre, then later just jacking the image of Mingh The Merciless, Gene Simmons, et all). Now that he’s become such a sought-after artist and wildly successful clothing label owner, it kind of feels dirty that he’s jacking all this shit.

Then again, maybe that’s the point…

The idea being, that everything is sort of a blurred vision of what could be, so that you don’t actually define what the future looks like. I based most of these off of Syd Meade’s concept art.

I used to start off every site with a picture of Angus Young from the cover of Highway To Hell, proclaiming “Rock and Roll ain’t noise pollution”. Back then I was always using fake names–most recently Stefano Dembro–I’m now using my real name, so I figured it was time to use a new image.

Jean Michel Basquiat has always been a massive inspiration to me, so here he is. The very first post on thisisjodi.com hopefully to bring some inspiration to you and luck to me.

It’s good to be here using my real name for once, and I’m looking forward to updating often. Please make sure to check out my friends and allies links.
